Use of Metabolism and Swimming Activity to Evaluate the Sublethal Toxicity of Surfactant (LAS-C12) on Mugil platanus
نویسنده
چکیده
This study aimed to investigate the toxicological effects of the LAS-C12 on Mugil platanus (mullet). Fishes exposed to 1.0 mg.L for 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours presented significant increase in specific routine metabolism. At the concentration of 0.5 mgL, the active metabolism presented a decreasing trend from 48 h of exposure on. However, only the consumption averages for 72 h were statistically different from the ones obtained for other periods of exposure. The lowest oxygen consumption in this concentration was observed for 24, 48 and 72 hours of exposure. Significant differences between the control and the concentration of 2.5 mgL were observed for the different periods of exposure. It was not possible to measure the consumption of oxygen for 96 and 120 h, because the fishes got tired in less than one minute after they were placed in the respirometer. The time of swimming until exhausted for fish exposed to 2.5 mgL of LAS-C12 for 24 h was 8 minutes. Following 72 hours of exposure to this concentration, the fish got exhausted after 3 minutes.

Hematological changes in Tinca tinca after exposure to lethal and sublethal doses of Mercury, Cadmium and Lead
Tench, Tinca tinca, were exposed to three treatments (one acute lethal 96 hrs Lc50/48 hrs and two chronic sublethal 10 and 25% Lc50/504 hrs) each of Mercury, Cadmium and Lead and its behaviour as an indicator of impaired hematology was studied. It was observed that impairments in hematological parameters (increased/decreased Hct, Hb, RBC, WBC and Lct) were reflected in behaviour of fish in the ...

Abstraet--Surfactants are one of the major components (10-18%) of detergent and household cleaning products and are used in high volumes. Several are commonly found in natural waters and consequently, their impact on the environment has been, and continues to be, discussed in the U.S.A., Western Europe and Japan. The chronic and sublethal toxicities of commercially important surfactants to aqua...

Backgrounds and Objective: Surfactants are one of the largest pollutants which exist in urban and industrial wastewaters. Large quantities of surfactants have entered to the environment since last decade due to increased use of synthetic detergent in industrial and home consumptions. In this study, the efficiency of UV/H2O2 process in removal of linear alkylbenzane sulfonate (LAS) from aqueous s...
متن کاملاثر فعالیت استقامتی شنا بر غلظت سرمی سورفکتنت D و پروتئینهای سلول کلارا در شناگران نخبه: یک کارآزمایی بالینی
Background and Objectives: Increasing surfactant D and Clara cell proteins (from epithelial cells of lung) in the blood is a sign of respiratory system damage. Endurance swimming is an anaerobic activity that involves activating macrophages and neutrophils. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of one session of endurance swimming activity on the serum concentration ...
